AO2 Artist Research
Amy K Roberts:
Amy played around with a little bit of line and how they would draw her viewers eyes to certain parts of her pictures. she was a student while doing this and only produced a few photos which include line. This was before she only used black and white in her photos.

In this photo she has shot the grate over the drain from a very low angle so that the viewers eye is led from the front of the photo into the background. The lines expand outwards at the base which directs the viewers attention to lead from front to back and the strong contrast also leaves no room for looking anywhere else.
In this picture she has captured a naturally occurring L shape from a shadow. This leads the viewer in two movements. The eye is caught at the junction of the “L”. Then the viewers eye is lead outwards towards the end of the “L” to the right. The appearance of the “L” enables to viewer eyes to follow the dominant shape in the image.
She has photographed the paint brushes which forms a “V” shape with the absence of any real background. As there is no proper background to be distracted by, the viewers eye is lead from the left side of the paint brushes first and then to the rest of the shape. This leads our eye in two directions, which makes the “V” shape to begin with.
This diagonal shape leads the viewers eyes from the main point then downwards, following the line of the paint brushes. It does this by the strong and thick lines of the brushes without a background to distract the viewer. The colour of the bristles also help to add more energy to the photo because of the vibrant colour.
Contact Sheet for Photo-shoot

AO3:
In my contact sheet I decided to take basic photos. Just so I can really change my favourite 4 or 5 into how I want them to look. So I can give myself a blank canvas to mess around with and make my own. I’m not keen of majority my photos as I was told I had to do the photo shoot before the artist research so it will be very difficult to link my work to the artists as I have also already edited them to how I would like them to look instead of portraying the artists I will be researching. However, I think this photo shoot has been slightly successful as I have many ideas that could develop during editing the best 4 or 5 photos from this shoot.
In this photo shoot, I went to the town centre and took pictures of everything I found interesting and a little bit abstract with line. I tried experimenting and using people in this. However I came to a conclusion that this wasn't one of the best ideas that I've had. It was fun to use people in my work but it didn't look as good as I thought it'd be.
Photos to improve

AO4 (need to show final edited pictures (as large as possible), then explain how images relate to research or initial ideas. no more than 2 paragraphs)
I have decided to edit these photos as I believe that they could change how others see the town centre in Harlow. I don’t like the photos that much as they are now, but once I have edited them, my opinion might change. It can be more than a book cover it could turn into another type of art form. I would like to change the drain image to just show the drain to make the viewer feel like they are looking into the drain and only that drain.
I’d like to edit terminus house to make it look like an abstract building and a positive office building; rather than a negative place to live with no space in each room; when they should only be office blocks.
Id like to improve the zebra crossing photo to make the road and the road paint look newer and not worn out. I'd like to do this to show that our town can be a new, refurbished and a nice place to be; rather then the old, worn out and intimating place that it is today.
How I edited my images AO2
I forgot to screenshot how i edited the pictures so I thought i would write about them instead. I decided to pixel stretch the photo which features terminus house, this included:
1.Duplicate my background so I can't damage the actual photo if I make a mistake
2.On the background copy I used Photoshop, clicked on the tools pallet and selected the single marquee tool.
3.It gave me the choice to use either the single column or the single row I used both so see the different looks within my work.
4.I then clicked on the area that I wanted to use and a line of dotted lines appeared, these were the pixels that I was going to stretch outwards.
5.I then had to click on edit in the menu bar and selected free transform, I then dragged the line in the direction I wanted this to go in, I finished the selection and then I was done with those edits.
In my third photo I selected the drawn couple with the quick selection tool. I then inversed my selection and used the gradient tool to edit the background going from black to white. Then in my second edit of this picture I selected the drawn couple then changed the white colour to grey using the eyedropper tool so I could get the same shade of grey as the male character.
In the zebra crossing image I selected each black and white stripe individually. Increased the brightness on the white stripes by 60 and decreased the black stripes brightness by 60. I then cropped the image to give a better zoomed in image. I did this to make the zebra crossing look new and untouched to give a fresh look in my edit.
In the last photo-of the drain- I didn’t do much editing. I turned the picture into black and white and then I cropped the image at an angle to make the drain seem straight. To further improve this image I would have re-take the photo so you cant see a silhouette of me in the water. Then follow the same steps I did to edit it again.
I like how I've edited these photos I feel like I went along with my plan on how I could edit them. I prefer how they look now but think I could’ve played with Photoshop a little bit more than what I did as I only used basic tools. In that area which include
-Gradient tool
-Cropping
-Marquee tool
-Increasing and decreasing brightness
-Black and white tool
I like the way I edited these as I have had to use my own vision to create these. However, I do think that I could’ve improved these further by using a light grey instead of a white when I used the gradient tool. This would show a better finish on the picture and be able to be a similar shade the male drawing. For my next set of edits I’d like to do research on what I could do rather then just jump into it and I'd also like to be more adventurous with my photo editing skills.

->
I decided that it'd be best to re-edit this photo to have the light grey instead of the white. I much prefer it this way because I feel it shows off the drawings colours more.
