Rut Blees Luxemburg

Luxemburg studied photography at London College of Communication and gained her last formal education at the University of Westminster. She employs long exposures to allows her to use the light emanating from the street only, for instance from office blocks or street lights in her photos. Luxemburg created a series of images for the London Underground in 2007. Many of her photographs and prints deal with nocturnal themes.

This image has the darker ranges of tone. you can see the light reflecting on the dark nights puddles. its a rather messy street or a dodgy alleyway. it isn't neat or tidy but you are first drawn to the front and then the back of the image with the lights and what appears to be a litter bin. i like her use of doing photo-shoots during the late evening and night, however i would like to see what it was like in the day, would it give off a similar effect?

I was drawn to thus image because its an odd piece of scenery. again, she has used the darker tones and its not what would be called aesthetically pleasing. i like the way she has photographed the disregarded piece of furniture and made it look eerie. i would like to go around a town or city late at night to see what i would find. i like the messy look of this landscape image as its what the modern city back-streets look like. i also like the way the street lamps have effected the look of the sofa.

I can see a wider range of tones in this image, it is still predominately darker but i can see lighter tones. I also can see the unnatural lighting and how she has made it s feature in her work in a positive way.
