How does my Camera work?

- ISO : a cameras sensitivity to light

Tip : Keep as low as possible the change aperture and shutter speed for the exposure

- Aperture : The 'f stop' on the camera, it controls how                               much light the camera will let in. ( the lower                         the more focused it is on the closer object)

- Shutter speed : Controls the movement in the image.                                       The higher it is ( 1/1250 second) the                                           better it stops the motion.

The light path starts at the front of the camera lens and it hits the mirror and its followed up in the pentaprism and inverts the image the right way up in the viewfinder.  The shutter will open for a short amount of time to expose the image to the film in the camera.

Motion blur is the apparent streaking of rapidly moving objects in a still image or a sequence of images such as a movie or animation. It results when the image being recorded changes during the recording of a single exposure, either due to rapid movement or long exposure.

Artist Research

Jacques-Henri Lartigue (1894-1986) was a French photographer and painter noted for the spontaneous, joyful photographs he took beginning in his boyhood and continuing throughout his life. Lartigue’s boyhood photographs were almost always candid images taken of his family and friends.

I was drawn by the slow movement in this image. I would like to capture something similar with a slow and tranquil movement in my work but I am unsure of how I would do so with a serious tone to it like the image by Lartigue. I may have to think and develop my ideas that come from this image to be able to mimic the slow movement in my work.

I like how he has captured a lady jumping down a few stairs in this image. It makes the viewer wonder if she will land safely or not. I would like re-create this with a modern twist to my work. this includes coloured images and a flight of stairs from either a flat or a shopping centre. I like how the image is focused on almost every aspect of the image. this creates a real feel to the picture and how busy life is that you may have to skip a few steps.

In this photo there is a woman drinking a beverage in her bed. This caught my eye as I could add a scruffy look to this and have the image only focusing on the model and them drinking or eating. I want it to look scruffier to make it look like an over exaggerated Monday morning brain dead approach to my work. Lartigue has inspired me to use his work but use a modern aesthetic and point of view to it.

I was drawn to this image because the moving vehicle is half way out of the picture. The car itself looks as if it is still appart from the wheels. I like the way the main focus is on the car too. I would like to use a large aperture to keep the focus on the main subject in my work. I may want to integrate light trailing in my work too when working with vehicles.

Photo-Shoot

In this photo-shoot i wanted to use fast movements to recreate some of Lartigue's work. I decided it would be best to give a modern edge to it (hence the coloured images). I feel my work could've been better as i didn't have the use of stairs so i had my model jump off of a bench. I used the physical movement of my models body to create simple but an abstract look to my work. I like the way i had been able to capture the models hair move from side to side and down to up. A few of these photos didn't work out how i wanted them to be; some of them are over exposed or the movement isn't right (images circled in red) however, most of my images turned out how i expected them to be in the context of this photo-shoot. I feel to further improve this Photo-shoot i could have used more modernised symbolism to show the technological advances compared to Lartigue's works. I used an ISO of 800 and the shutter speed was 1/250, i did this so i could find it easier to capture the different movements in my work.
