Shape
A shape is an area enclosed by a line. It could be just an outline or it could be shaded in.
Shapes can be either geometric, like a circle, square or triangle, or irregular.
When drawing shapes, you must consider the size and position as well as the shape of the area around it. The shapes created in the spaces between shapes are referred to as negative space.

Man Ray
Man Ray was an American photographer, sculptor, painter and filmmaker, famous for his camera-less technique of photography dubbed as "Rayographs". He started off as an abstract painter, influenced by Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism and Dada, but eventually switched back and forth between two mediums, sometimes painting, but mostly photography.

This image was brought to my attention as the spherical shapes from not only the glass like tears but the eyes too.this photo was taken in the early 1930's so the thin eyebrow look with the long eyelashes (mascara helps) really creates the circular effect of the eyes in itself. I would like to create a similar image, but i don't know how i would develop this idea yet.

In this photo i like how Man Ray has made the female body look like one of the stringed instruments ( the violin family). this creates an abstract image of the body and how she can change and the curves can help us understand that we are instruments and can create lovely things in this world. it is a very creative image where each viewer can interpret different things about this image.
Many viewers ask if some of Ray's work is art or sexual objectification. I think that his use of negative space and the lighting which reflects on the front of the body makes this image art. Sexual objectification is the act of treating a person as a mere object of sexual desire. So that point is only valid if that is what the viewers perspective is. I think that Man wanted to show how we are all bodies, pieces of art. I also like how he didn't just use stick thin models in most of his work and that they were just all different shapes and sizes.
